Blind Person’s Allowance

Blind persons allowance is an increase on the amount of tax free earnings that you can get.

I will use a simple example with figures that are not accurate at all but will help to make sense of it as you may find it a bit difficult to understand. For example, everyone can earn up to £10 a year tax free. If you are blind or severely visually impaired this can be increased to £12 a year tax free if you claim blind person’s allowance.

To claim this you must be registered blind or severely visually impaired with your local council.

All you have to do to claim this is to call the HMRC (revenue and customs)(0300 200 3301).

Another important note regarding this allowance is that you can also transfer it to your partner even if they are not visually impaired. And it can be back dated for one year.
